As mission scenarios for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV) become more demanding, and require extended periods without operator contact perhaps in hostile environments, it will be essential to able to detect possible obstructions, to evaluate the disposition of the environment and to re-plan the mission with a response time that matches the vehicle kinematics.
